19th Century French Louis XV Carved Walnut Wall Panetière Cabinet from Provence

About the Item

This beautiful antique fruitwood hanging panetière was crafted in Provence, circa 1830. This decorative cabinet stands on scrolled escargot feet over a intricate scalloped apron; it features an arched top decorated with ten finials, and two sides embellished with turned spindles. The facade features a carved bombe central door dressed with original lock, key and thick iron hinge. The small and elegant cabinet is in excellent condition with a rich walnut patina; it could also be placed on top of a Provençal pétrin or siting on a buffet. In the 18th century in the south of France, a panetière (or bread box in English), was used as a practical wall cabinet in which homemade bread was stored. Measures: 33" W x 17" D x 42" H.
