Antique 1910 German Sterling Silver Fish Spice Box

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive, large antique German sterling silver spice box realistically modelled in the form of a fish; an addition to our animal related silverware collection This exceptional antique German sterling silver box has been realistically modelled in the form of a fish. This impressive fish shaped box has an articulated body, allowing the fish's position to be customised. The body of the box is embellished with separate dorsal and pectoral fins, in addition to rows of engraved scales. The forked caudal/tail fin is further ornamented with engraved textures replicating the fish's natural features This antique silver fish box retains the original hallmarked push fit hinged cover/head. The mouth of the fish is composed of a secondary hinged cover. The impressive head of the fish is embellished with two collet set gem eyes. The hallmarks struck to this impressive box include: Maker's mark: Pseudo marks (Karl Kurz, Kesselstadt) Importer's mark: BML (Boaz Moses Landeck) Import mark: Chester, England Silver quality/purity mark: .925 (sterling standard) Import date mark: K (1910) Such large examples becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Condition This silver fish shaped box is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The engraved decoration is all very crisp. The German hallmarks to the interior of the head and Chester import hallmarks to the head and tail are all very clear.     An exceptional, fine and impressive antique German sterling silver and enamel dressing table box; an addition to our diverse range of antique silver boxes and cases. This exceptional German sterling silver dressing table box has a cylindrical form with a domed cover. The surface of the body is embellished with an impressive blue hot enamel panel incorporating scrolling leaf and floral decoration. This antique box is fitted with the original hinged cover embellished with exceptional hot enamel ornamentation, all framed with a plain border. The domed enamel panel to the cover depicts a female in draped layered clothing interacting with a male figure, examining harvested fruits. The interior of the box retains the original gilding. The hallmarks struck to the underside this exceptional box include: Maker's marks: Horn icon(untraced) Silver quality/purity mark: 935, sterling * National mark/reichsmark: Crescent moon and crown (Halbmond und Krone) Dutch Import Duty Mark: ZI (sterling, used from 1953) Condition This antique German box is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The enamel panels are in perfect condition. The original gilding details to the body of the box have natural wear in keeping with age.
