About the Item
Chinese black lacquer box dating from the early 19th century, circa 1800 to 1820. This piece was originally the interior compartment of a larger work box, now long separated from its outer case. The quality of the lacquer is exceptionally fine with a deep, even black surface and beautifully executed craftsmanship throughout. An elegant surviving fragment of a more elaborate set, it stands on its own as a rare example of superior early Chinese lacquer work.
