Folk Art 1930 Mechanical Desk Barrel Box In Polychromate Wood

Folk art desk barrel box. Very unusual piece of folk art, created around the 1930. This is a mechanical desk barrel box carved in wood and decorated with painting. Shown a man dressed in a tuxedo and a hat smoking a cigarette which rest over a barrel. The way to open is pushing down the tail of the tuxedo as illustrated, see pictures. Material: Carved wood and polychrome paint. Weight: 177.95 Grams, (0.39 Pounds). Measurements: 165 mm by 76 mm by 146 mm (6.50 x 3 x 5.75 Inches). Condition: The overall condition of this box is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the wood.     An art deco desk box designed by Poole Silver Co. American, Founded in 1893. Very elegant rectangular box, created in America during the art deco period back in the 1930-1940. This elegant desk box was crafted by the Poole Silver Co. with sharp lines in solid sterling silver with high polished finish. Poole Silver Co. The Poole Silver Company was formed in 1892 by George Poole and Edward Roche in Taunton as Poole, Roche & Co., then established as a corporation on May 21, 1895. They was in the beginning manufacturer of plated silverware and manufacturer of silver products made with electroplating techniques. In 1900 it operated in a small two-room factory at 106 Whittington Street, and later moved to 320 Whittington Street. From 1946 the firm began to produce sterling silver flatware, hollowware, and cutlery. Later, Poole bought the full control and managed the company until his death. Poole was succeed by his three sons until 1946, when they retired and sold the company to a group headed by Sidney A. Kane.
