19th Century French Art Nouveau Enameled Ormolu Jewel Casket

About the Item

An exceptional Belle Époque period French artisan-crafted enameled jewel casket. Born in the late 19th century, having a square beveled and etched butterfly foliate motif hinged glass lid, patinated gilt metal frame, exquisite polychrome decoration, blue ground, rich beautifully colored and stylized lizard with whimsical flowing floral vine foliage motif, finished on all sides, boldly contrasting ruby red tufted cushion upholstered interior, rising on fanciful ormolu scroll mask winged paw feet. A wonderful example, the scarce antique, circa 1880, would make for a stunning jewelry box, watch or important collectible display, small sized case, or placed on a table, desk or shelf as a sophisticated artistical accent piece. Dimensions (approx): 3.75" High, 7.25" Wide, 7.25" Deep Good condition. Original antique condition. Presents splendidly. Elegantly aged patina. Worn, distressed upholstery interior with some loss. Wear commensurate with approx 140 years of age.
