Fully Lined Interior
From our Jewellery Box collection, we are pleased to offer this Antique Mahogany Accessories Box. The Box of rectangular elongated form made from solid Mahogany with brass screws decorating the lid framing a central shield shaped vacant initial plaque. Each side of the box features a small brass latch for keeping the lid secure when locked or unlocked. The interior of the Box is lined in steel blue cushioned silk velvet to both the base and inner lid to help protect the contents and bears the retailers plaque for S Maw Son & Thompson Aldersgate St. London. The Box dates to the early Victorian period circa 1890 and is a perfect addition to any home for storing accessories or Jewellery in as seen in our decorative image.

S Maw Son & Thompson were medical instrument manufacturers based in London originally as J and S Maw operating from 11 Aldersgate Street, London. They operated from around circa 1830 until circa 1920 when they were bought out and renamed Maws Pharmacy Supplies Limited moving to Monken Hadley, Barnet, England
Mahogany is the name given to many types of tropical hardwood and can be found in Africa, India and South America, most of which are a red-brown colour with a fine, even grain. This makes it easily workable and gives it a durable finish which attributes to its popularity with many kinds of furniture.
