Evening Bag produced for the Maison Cartier in New York in the 1970s Salimbeni

About the Item

Ovalized evening bag in 925/1000 sterling silver with stylised floral motif designs enamelled in Art Deco style. Taken from an original drawing by Louis Cartier from the early 1900s from which the bag donated to Mary Pickford was produced, and reproduced by the Salimbeni company in their Florence headquarters for the Maison Cartier in New York in the 1970s. Size 5 x 8.5 x 13.2 cm, interior with ground mirror. Weight 463 g. Made in Florence at the Salimbeni company headquarters with completely manual execution by artisan artists with a thick plate and large reinforcements suitable for withstanding numerous enamelling firings at around 800° C. Hand-engraved hollowing of the floral motifs where the enamel is placed with a depth of around 0.4 mm using burins. High-fire enamelling with numerous firings. Lost zip, i.e. semi-invisible. Rhodolite oval cabochon mm. 3.5 x 5 with 18 ct gold setting. manufacturer's mark: 391FI metal mark fineness:925 It is a new object that has never been used but is considered vintage because it was built more than 20 years ago.
