Collectible Opium Container Mughal Art Round Lidded Box

About the Item

Antique collectible opium container Mughal Art round lidded box. This stylish lidded box is veneered with ivory color white bone sections engraved and hand painted with floral Mughal design int he same work as in the Taj Mahal palace.. Beautiful round Bombay box made of wood accented with white bone inlaid throughout in geometric design and arabesque with Mughal Raj design overlaid with Indian Mughal Raj design engraved in Moorish designs. This vintage Indian circular box is handcrafted of wood covered in camel bone tiles paint decorated with a gold and jewel colors of Mughal art. The shape of the box is round and they were used to hold opium or tobacco. The Mughal Empire (1526-1857) ruled most of the Indian sub-continent with tolerance and diplomacy. They also created some of the world’s most beautiful art, poetry and architecture, represented today by such masterworks as the Taj Mahal in Agra, the Red Fort in Old Delhi and the Shalimar Gardens in Lahore, Pakistan. The Mughals were also masters of miniature painting and enjoyed capturing detailed scenes from every day. Very hard to date, our example may have been made in the 1940s. Condition: Excellent. Dimensions: 10" Diameter x 4". Probably used to store opium or tobacco. Early 20th century.
