19th Century Pair of Marble and Gilt Bronze Figural Candelabra by Eugène Hazart

About the Item

A Fine Pair of Figural Candelabra Signed Eugène Hazart of Paris Constructed in Carrara marble and finely cast gilt bronze, rising from a square gilt panelled base, each candelabrum with a fluted column surmounted by a figure of a child, holding a potted plant, its branches terminating in candleholders with shaped petals. One base signed in script. Paris, Circa 1860 This model is recorded in the sketchbooks of the famous l'Escalier de Cristal, purveyor of clocks, candelabras & objets d'art. The company's meticulous notebooks have a drawing of the candelabra, alongside Hazart's name as the supplier. Dimensions: H: 17 in / 43 cm | W: 4.5 in / 12 cm | D: 5 in / 12 cm Eugène Hazart of Paris (1838-1891) Hazart was a Parisian bronzier, listed as a member of the 'Réunion des fabricants de bronze' with his address at 122 rue Vieille-du-Temple from 1843, later moving to 12 rue St-Gilles in 1856, and finally at no.16 in 1864. He is listed as a supplier to 'l'Escalier de Cristal' in the second half of the 19th century, a true testament to the quality of Hazart's craftsmanship.
