Antique Giltwood Altar Candelabra from Tuscany, Circa 1800

About the Item

Hand-carved in Tuscany, Italy, circa 1800, this gold leaf altar candelabra has a commanding presence. At over four feet tall and three feet wide, the candelabra is full of movement inspired by nature. A rectilinear base adorned with a shallow, repeating lozenge motif provides support for the sprawling rinceaux above. The foundation for the display is a large, curled acanthus leaf with elements extending to the sides and above. The foliage dances about while climbing upwards, dotted with circular florets and trumpet vines. Seven of the leaf tips are topped by crinkled edge iron bobeches, which are aligned in a cascading alignment. A beautiful Tuscan giltwood altar candelabra that would accentuate any room it is displayed in, such as on a center table of an entry hall or a console in a living room.
