Floor Candelabrum by Herbert Simonson for James Martin

About the Item

This masterful floor candelabrum was designed and manufactured by the Bucks Country, Pennsylvania woodworker, Herbert (Herb) Simonson, and retailed at James Martin's studio. Martin served as an extended apprentice to George Nakashima and often completed Nakashima's projects. This elegant, sculptural piece is composed of a semicircle of six candles in walnut and spun aluminum. The frame and base are also carved walnut. Simonson designed and crafted a hanging version; this floor example is scarcely seen. Branded with an "S" for "Simonson" on the underside of the base. The circumference of the semicircle of candles is: 11". Each of the six candleholder's depth is: 3/4". The circumference of each spun aluminum disc is: 3.25". Artist information was provided by a close friend/handler of James Martin's estate.
