French 19th Century Louis XVI Style White Carrara Marble and Ormolu Cassolettes
About the Item
An exceptional pair of mid 19th century French Louis XVI st. white Carrara marble and ormolu mounted cassolettes. The pair are raised by a marble base above topie shaped ormolu supports. The front of the base is decorated by an ormolu plaque, reminiscent of Clodion. Above are two winged cherubs holding the oblong urn which is decorated by mythical dancing maidens topped by fierce animal heads on each side connected by an ormolu beaded ring. The top and bottom are finished with acorn finials.
