Pair of Large Carved and Gilded Wood Baroque Putti and Gilded Iron Candelabra

About the Item

This large pair of carved wood putti on gilded rockwork bases are from the 19th century. The candelabra tops in gilded iron and carved wood most likely are from the early 20th century. Combined then to create an incredible pair of lighted sculptures showing all the style and drama of the baroque, with the convenience of the electric light. All the carving is well done and individual with attention to details. The putti's faces are very dramatic and full of life and mischief. The surface color is warm and rich with a deep lustrous finish. all the other stained wood surfaces are done in a low luster surface making the figures more predominant. All the gilding is done over a rich red boulle surface by hand. Since these are made from old parts and those made to create the tops we believe them to be one of a kind objects made for a specific customer and installation in the first part of the 20th century and without a doubt of European origins more specifically Italian.
