Set of three candleholders, in a Streamline Moderne design, made from brushed and polished stainless steel by artist and designer, Avedis Baghsarian.
"After 30 years as a respected and eminent photographer, Avedis found photography no longer challenging and in the early 1990s decided to go back to his original studies and began designing and producing a collection of tabletop accessories. He focused his energies on creating original yet functional designs emphasizing compositions that featured interlocking forms for practical pieces such as vases, candle holders and salt-and-pepper shakers, among other items. In 1994, the collection won the prestigious International Design Magazine Award. Those objects were introduced in New York’s distinguished stores such as Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys and 28 leading museum stores, including New York’s Guggenheim, San Francisco MOMA, Museum of Contemporary Arts in Chicago, the Los Angeles Museum of Arts and San Diego Museum of Arts as well as the International Museum of Jerusalem in Israel and Kobi in Japan." - excerpted from Avedis Baghsarian's bio. on his site
Candleholders are three individual sizes, 3.25" H, 4.5" H, 5.25" x 4" W.
All are signed "Avedis" and bear a patent no. of: 5,240,752, which was applied for in 1992 and granted in 1993.

Originally conceived for the restaurant of famed French restauranteur Pierre Gognaire, they proved popular enough that they are now offered to a wider audience. The focal point are the 2 leaves of the gingko. The top of the leaves are scored, the undersides are smooth. The candles are supported by a wonderful spiraling detail at the center of each leaf. Naturalistically cast, with the high areas polished, these candlesticks are hand signed by the artist (see image #10) as well as his cipher that is in the mold. Currently there are 3 pair available and the collection of 6 would make an impressive statement on a large table.
