19th C French Tall Case Morbier Clock or Comtoise Signed B. Bignon à la Martigné

About the Item

A fine faux bois grain painted pine case comtoise or morbier tall clock of a grand scale with porcelain enameled clock face with Roman numeral dial and calendar, signed by the clockmaker “B. Bignon, à la Martigné”. This clock features an automated polychrome pendulum with a hunter and bird, with the bird rising up and down as the pendulum swings back and forth (not currently working). The case has a small foliate decorated door in the base for retrieving the weights, of which two are included. The clock is French in origin, dating to the 19th century, and is in good overall working condition, with some minor case losses, worm damage, and other imperfections and wear commensurate with age and use. A small label appears on the back of the pendulum. Dimensions: 87 in H x 19 in W x 11 in D.
