About the Item

Magnificent example of a grandfather clock, England , last decade of the 19th century, late Victorian period, with influences from the coming Edwardian style. We are dealing with a true work of art, a block of flamed mahogany, completely inlaid with floral motifs in fruit woods. Impressive case but of a proportion that makes the cabinet slender and well-proportioned. In addition to the skillful craftsmanship of the cabinetmaker who made this wooden body that looks like a painting, we must dwell on the mechanism! Functioning, 8 reeds and three weights, it plays every quarter of an hour a part of the melody, at the stroke of the hour and after a minute ( it served as a reminder of the hour) the whole melody. It has two selectable melodies; Whittington Chime and Westminster Chime, with also the possibility to mute the sound. This, Ladies and Gentlemen, is a Dream Clock. A unique and beautiful clock to have.
