Dutch 18th Century Walnut Longcase or Grandfather Clock by Anthony Auwers

About the Item

Magnificent and rare Dutch longcase or grandfather clock. This is a so called Amsterdams Staand Horloge. Signed: Anthony Auwers 's Hertogen Bosch but made in Amsterdam. Striking Dutch design from the 18th century. Walnut bomb base with three original carved gilt wood figural finials of Atlas and Angels. Silvered brass dial with engraved silvered arch depicting the moon phase. Anthony Auwers was importing clocks from Amsterdam and sold them in his shop in 's Hertogen Bosch during the period 1740-1760. In very good condition with a beautiful patina. A simular piece like this is in the Noordbrabants Museum.
