Charles X Figural Ormolu Mantel Clock Depicting Urania

About the Item

This elegant clock is distinguished by its crisply modeled subject and the extraordinary completeness of its original finish. The seated figure is of Urania, muse of astrology, leaning on a globe. The clock face is centered by a raised star surrounded by Roman numerals. The base is applied with a central raised trophy with telescope, chart and a finely cast band depicting the zodiac. The case is tastefully decorated with stylized acanthus. The mechanism has the silk escapement which so dominated this period. There is no evident signature on the case, but the works are signed Douillon. for Nicholas Douillon fl 1830.
