French 18th Century Louis XVI Period Ormolu and Marble Clock

About the Item

An extremely elegant and very high-quality French 18th century Louis XVI period ormolu, Bleu Turquin and white Carrara marble clock signed by Jean-Baptiste Dutertre. The clock is raised by six ormolu bun feet below the oval-shaped mottled Bleu Turquin base decorated with an elegant twisted and beaded ormolu band. The stepped white Carrara marble design displays an ormolu central column with its signed enameled dial is below a swaging floral garland. Above the column is a charmingly seated and winged cherub holding a floral wreath and a torch with the eternal flame. On each side are classical maidens one holding a basket of grape clusters and the other reaching out toward the cherub.
