Mantel Clock 19th Century Styl Empire
About the Item
This ormolu clock from the 19th century has a rectangular base with four feet carved with small patterns. The figure on top represents a lady playing on the spinet and on sides of the clock are placed eagles - a symbol of power as well as an recognizable sign of the Empire style. The design of the Empire period was often characterized by militaristic elements – symbols of war and victory, imperial emblems, such as the golden eagle. The dial is enameled with Roman numerals for hours and Arabic numerals for minutes. Around the dial are placed four stars . The young lady on the top may be the important English novelist Jane Austen (1775-1817) and the couple depicted on the front of the clock’s base could suggest that they are her charcters from the novel, as she was known for publishing novels concerning love and marriages.
The eight-days going movement has a wire suspension pendulum, It strikes the hour and half hour on it’s bell. The clock comes complete with its pendulum, key and bell.
The clock is in excellent and perfect working condition. In addition, it was recently cleaned and serviced by a professional clockmaker who specializes in maintaining museums.
