Mantel Clock 19th Century Styl Empire

About the Item

Empire style figural mantle clock from the beginning of the 19th century. This mantel clock is known also as the “Allegory of love”, as the woman featured in this clock is holding onto what seems to be left of a Cupid’s arrow. The significance behind this might be that the woman is the one in control of whom she will love. The clock is made mainly of gilded and chiselled bronze. The woman is portrayed in a contrapposto-like-posture and leaning on her elbow against the clock case, which is modelled as a pedestal. Inside the case is an enamel dial with Roman numerals with black steel hands. The base of the clock which has a rectangular shape is adorned with reliefs in the shape of swans, fountain, floral garland, ribbons, bows and arrows, floral wreaths as well as it is supported by bell-shaped feet. The eight-days going movement has a wire suspension pendulum, It strikes the hour and half hour on it’s bell. The clock comes complete with its pendulum, key and bell.
