It harkens back to a time of “Peyton Place” when outdoor bank clocks or clocks atop a lamppost in the town square were commonplace instilling in us a feeling of communal security and good ol’ American values. In 1908, O.B. McClintock opened the O.B. McClintock Co. company to manufacture clocks which he sold to financial institutions all across the United States. A desk clock designed by Tiffany & Co. A beautiful and elegant easel back desk clock, created in New York city by the Tiffany & Co. studios, during the art deco period back in the early 1920. This rare piece has been designed in a squared curvilinear shape and carefully crafted up in solid sterling silver .935/.999 . The watch is gilded and is fully embellished with applications of purple-violet and white enamels over a geometric guilloche patterns. It is fitted at the reverse, with an easel back retractable hinged stand. Movement: Is Swiss mechanical wingding, 8 days. The dial is creme-white with arabic golden numerals and with black hands and inscribed, Tiffany & Co. Swiss. Weight: 180.95 Grams, (1115.99 Dwt). Measurements: 80 mm by 80 mm by 16.5 mm (3.15 x 3.15 x 0.65 Inches). Clocks Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark and signed, "TIFFANY & CO. 8 DAYS SWISS". This radio has just been recently restored on the outside as well as the inside. The standard M1 rotor movement with a detachable cord. It is inscribed “Telechron” in the center of the dial. This rare iconic clock was designed during a time when the majority of electric clocks sold for around 5.00, this clock retailed for $50.00, earning it the nickname “the fifty dollar clock.” The stock market crash and Great Depression struck shortly after an introduction and, as a result very few were produced and few sold. This one is also accompanied by a new cloth chord and a period-correct plug switch. It has a metal plate on the back inscribed “Warren Telechron Co. Ashland, Mass. USA”.
