19th Century French Cartel Mantel Desk Clock Ormolu Mounts, Boulle Style
About the Item
A superb quality antique French clock, circa 1875. This Boulle style mantel clock is made with red tortoiseshell typical of the period, and brass inlays to the case front and sides further accentuates the beauty and high quality craftsmanship. Ormolu rococo case with ormolu mounts and surmounted by a scrolling acanthus leaves.
An opening glass front door to the gilt dial with individual enamel numeral cartouches, circa 1875.
Brass backplate.
Parisian work although unsigned.
Trendy 2023 design colors makes this historical clock particularly appealing.
All original from the 19th Century.

- French Rococo Ormolu Mantel Clock Set After Meissonnier, Samuel MartiBy S. Marti & CieLocated in Miami, FL12 of 19 A very large and fine antique French clock set, circa 1880. It is of Rococo design in the manner of Juste Aurele Meissonier and boldly modeled in gilt bronze. Waisted keyhole shape with acanthus leaf shoulders, 'C' scroll feet standing on its original integral serpentine base. To the top is a putti and a musical instrument. To the sides, are cloth backed sound frets. The large dial is porcelain. The design is attributed to by the highly inventive and influential rococo goldsmith and architect Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier (1695-1750). Born in Turin, Meissonnier emigrated to France to work in the royal Gobelins factory in 1724 and in 1726 succeeded Jean II Bérain as architect and draughtsman to the Chambre et Cabinet du Roi. His designs for candelabra and other objects appear in the Dousieme livre des Oeuvres de J. A. Messonnier, Livre de Chandeliers de Sculpture en Argent published by Gabriel Huquier in the 1740s. A similar candelabrum in the Munich Residenz is illustrated in Ottomeyer and Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen (Munich 1986). The French movement is of high quality and is by Samuel Marti...Category

GosselinLocated in Miami, FLA very fine Early 18th century French Louis XV period corne verte (green horn) and ormolu mounted cartel or wall clock. The impressive cartel rests on its original socle - wall mounted base. Signed on the original white enamel dial with hand painted Roman numerals within a hand blown glass door with ormolu trim and decorated with ornate bronze. Impressively chiseled or ciselé work throughout. The wonderful gilt bronze case is signed by the highly respected maitre ebeniste and clockmaker, A. Gosselin from Paris. It is surrounded by flowers and foliage. Antoine Gosselin ‘A. Gosselin’ (Antoine Gosselin 1731-1794, Paris, master in 1752). Original gilding throughout, exquisite patina.
