Cartier Paris 1935 Rare Art Deco Geometric Desk Clock in Black Onyx and Agate

About the Item

A desk clock designed by Cartier. A beautiful and sober desk clock, created in Paris France by the the house of Cartier during the late art deco period, back in the early 1935. This desk clock is very rare and has been designed with geometric art deco patterns and assembled from several polished pieces carved from natural black onyx and reddish translucent agate. All parts mounted in gilded bronze and sterling silver settings of .935/.999. Movement: Swiss mechanical wingding Imhof movement, Caliber 244, Fifteen Jewels, 8 days, Serial 2449074. The dial is octagonal with a unique painted scene depicting an ancient Greek ship, most probably from the Homer's Iliad or related to the wars of Troy. Analog without numbers and with golden hands and inscribed, Cartier Swiss. Weight: 386.85 Grams, (247.98 Dwt). Measurements: 114 mm by 106.5 mm by 38.5 mm (4.5 x 4.20 x 1.52 Inches). Dial Marks: Stamped with the maker's mark and signed, "CARTIER SWISS". Case Movement Marks: Stamped with the maker's mark and signed, "IMHOF 9074 FIFTEEN 15 JEWELS UNADJUSTED REF 244". Arthur Imhof SA company, was founded at La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland in 1924. Is very well known for the manufacture of elegant desk and table watches, the slogan Manufacture de Pendulettes d'Art et Réveils identifies it for the production of quality models, so much so that it is defined in the world of collecting as the Rolls Royce of watches. Desk clocks designed by Cartier, Tiffany and Boucheron used Imhof 8 days movements. Note: From 1919 to 1936, Cartier created some of the world's most extraordinary clocks. Cartier Art Deco period creations took inspiration from Egyptian, Persian, Indian, Chinese, Greek and Japanese cultures and motifs. They were highly imaginative and fanciful, using a full arsenal of fine jewels and precious stones. The atelier's production of fine desk timepieces has been in demand ever since, with many popular designs from the Art Deco period re-imagined for the modern client.     Belle epoque desk clock designed by Cartier. An impressive and magnificent "mignonette" desk clock, created in Paris France by the house of Cartier, during the Edwardian Belle Epoque period, back in the 1905. This stunning piece is very rare and has been designed with neoclassic French patterns and carefully crafted with parts made up in yellow gold of 18 karats, silver and platinum. It is mounted with four spherical parts, carved from green chrysoprase. The five sides are embellished with applications of vivid purple enamel over a sunburst and linear guilloche ground and the borders are accented with a linear frame of white champleve enamel. Fitted in the reverse with a sistem to open and close the three winding parts to manipulate. Movement: Mechanical 8 days, key winding and It is accompanied with the associated original key. Dial: White ceramic with gold batons for the seconds, with Arabic black numerals and gold hands, inscribed, Cartier Paris-London.
