Lawson Art Deco Digital Table Clock Designed by Ferher and Adomatis

About the Item

This handsome, digital table clock was made in the 1930s by Lawson Time, a clock manufacturer in Los Angeles, California. It was one of several clocks designed for them in the Art Deco style by Ferher and Adomatis, presumably Paul Feher and George Adomatis. The combination of the brushed and polished finishes of the nickel-plated brass body of the clock accentuates the details of the design. For many years the design of this clock and other Lawson digital clocks were widely and falsely attributed to KEM Weber, but the evidence does not support that attribution. You can find an in-depth dive into the history of the Lawson digital clocks on the Decopix website. There is an excellent article titled, "The Lawson Clock Story" with detailed information. We’re not quite sure which model number this clock is. It is marked as model no. 306. However, if you click the link to the Lawson clocks gallery page that is linked within “The Lawson Clock Story” article, you can see that they show two similar models described as Lawson 206, types A & B. And the clock labeled Lawson model 306 is completely different. And if you go to the article “Lawson Clocks Ltd. of Los Angeles - the NAWCC!”, you will find other clock model numbers ascribed to other different clock designs. The clock runs well and keeps time, though the minute wheel does not drop fully into position, as shown in some of the photos. Please let us know if you have any questions.
