Art Deco Wood, Fur and Leather Desk Accessory, 5 Pieces by Dan Karner France

About the Item

This exquisite desk set by Dan Karner, also known as Daniel Karner, showcases the beauty of French Art Deco design. Crafted with genuine pony skin fur, rich cognac leather, intricately carved wood, and sparkling crystal, these elegant desktop accessories are a must-have for any desk or writing accessory collector. The set consists of five pieces: a desk pad with a letter opener, blotter, notebook, inkwell, and ashtray. Each piece bears the signature "Dan Karner" engraved on the desk pad, ashtray, and inkwell holders. The desk set is in good condition, with minor wear throughout due to regular use. Measurements: The desk pad is 12.63 in wide (32 cm) x 9.88 in deep (25 cm). The letter opener is 2.38 in wide (6 cm) x 8.69 in long (22 cm). Notebook: 7.69 in wide (19.5 cm) x 4.50 in deep (11.5 cm) x 1 in high (2.5 cm). The inkwell with a base is 4.32 in wide (11 cm) x 4.32 in deep (11 cm) x 2.38 in high (6 cm). The ashtray with a base is 4.32 in wide (11 cm) x 4.32 in deep (11 cm) x 1.75 in high (4.5 cm). The blotter is 6.69 in wide (17 cm) x 3.57 in deep (9 cm) x 2.38 in high (6 cm). Note: Measurements in item detail are for the desk pad alone. Note: Dan Karner, Aka Daniel Karner, was a French designer and craftsman who worked in France in the 1930s. He had a small craft store in Paris, France, in the 3rd Arrondissement until 1940. Dan Karner worked mainly on his own with apprentices. He specialized in carved wood and elegant home decoration. The items he creates are elegant and exclusive, with a range that includes bookends, cocktail picks, desk accessories, and decorative lamps - all of which are limited editions. One morning in 1940, he did not come to open his studio. He was of Jewish origin, and the story goes that he left Paris and crossed all of France and the Pyrenees to escape the German occupation of France. After the war, he never returned to France, but there are a few pieces on the market with his signature and the following mention: "Creaciones - Barcelona - Spain." That information seems to indicate that he made his journey to Spain and freedom successful and was able to resume his activities in Barcelona. Several years ago in France, we had the privilege of meeting an old gentleman who was one of his apprentices in his youth. He provided us with invaluable information and precious anecdotes about this great designer of the Art Deco period.
