Pyrite Skull from Peru

About the Item

Peruvian pyrite bust of a human skull. Pyrite was given the name "Fool's Gold" by prospectors having mistaken it for gold in the 19th century. Its current namesake is derived from the Greek and Latin word pyr, meaning fire, as it can produce a bright spark when struck against a hard object.
