18th Century Chinese Lotus and Peony Marker

About

This limestone post was carved by hand with flowering peonies around the base, symbols of royalty and Virtue. It is crowned with a lotus bud: a symbol of purity. The post was likely part of a taller marker that stood outside of a Provincial home of a wealthy merchant in Northern China over two centuries ago.
