Atang Tshikare, Bronze Sculpture, "PEO E ATANG"

About the Item

"Peo e Atang" is a celebration by artist Atang Tshikare in honor of his firstborn son Peo. The word Peo means seed or beginning and Atang means to grow or multiply. Together they mean "The seed that is multiplying / the beginning of growth". The Peo e Atang work is made to order in Cape Town and part of an ongoing series. This highly polished bronze has a mirror finish and is juxtaposed by a hand carved piece of textured wood. The main form is an abstract organic shape with six bulbous points and an upward facing hole for the wood to enter and rest. This amoeba silhouette is part of a narrative in a departure of trilogy in an upcoming short novel by the Atang Tshikare. The follow up of which will be extended at Design Miami in 2022 alongside other new artworks. Atang lives and works in Cape Town.

  • Atang Tshikare, Mollo Oa Leifo (Mme), chair made in South Africa,
    By Atang Tshikare
    Located in Cape Town, WC
Mollo Oa Leifo – Mme (“fire in the hearth – Mother”), pays homage to the African mothers who give knowledge. The Litema pattern on the frame, beadwork on the seat and weaving on the backrest of the chairs are all adornments of Bantu cultural symbols that were used in ancient times by our foremothers to record information, express feelings and exchange messages. This Afrofuturistic dining chair has a backrest made with handwoven grass from Lesotho and stained with a natural dye. The glass bead detail is woven along the seat, and fastened along a hand carved wooden frame. It has a symbol of fire in the middle to symbolize the hearth. The bronze Bantu pictograms detail is based on that symbolize cast and engraved into the wood whilst the beadwork is handsewn onto the fabric. This Louis VXI medallion chair is one of a set that is part of an Afrofuturist Period Room...
