About the Item

Stunning sculpture of a two figure. Expressive use of the natural material. primitivist / modernist style. Powerful Brutalist sculpture with an interesting contrast between the smooth front and the untouched rough back. carved out of a solid piece of wood. Very decorative item with and interesting texture and physical presence. Signed yet unknown artist, Dutch School. Very interesting sculpture. It's not signed but is reminiscent of the German Expressionism of artists like ERNST LUDWIG KIRCHNER, Oskar Kokoschka, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and others. Kirchner for instance was inspired by African art. and made sculptures of wood, first using an axe and then refining them with a knife, although the overall surface is left rough. Because of this choice of material and his working method the shape of the tree trunk greatly determined the form of the sculpture. All these characteristics are found in this piece. Condition as seen in the photos. Please note: this is a unique vintage item and has traces of use/storage. Artworks and objects are hard to photograph, I have tried to get the colors to match the actual piece. However, some differences may occur. Please take a close look at the photos.
