Bronze and glass sculpture by artist Claire Falkenstein (1908-1997). Welded bronze tubing with fuzed colored glass accents with a wonderful patina to the bronze. Claire Falkenstein was a painter, sculptor, jewelry maker and teacher, she is well known for her large scale installations. She attended Mills College in 1933 and the University of California Berkeley from 1927-1930, she graduated with a major in Art and two minors in Anthropology and Philosophy. She preferred to call her "sculptures" "structures" and worked in San Francisco in the 1930s-1940s, Paris from 1950-1963 and the rest of her life in Los Angeles. While in Paris she became part of the European circle of artists which included Jean Arp, Alberto Giacometti, Karel Appel, Georges Mathieu and Antoni Tapies, later she become part of the soon to be known "Les Americans a Paris". She has had many shows and is in many museums.
