Crusty Yellow-Gold Ceramic TOTEM with Crescent Top, Crawl Glaze, Hand Built
About the Item
This 3-part crusty yellow-gold hand built ceramic TOTEM is a true gift from the "kiln gods", a term ceramicists often use. Here, the result was totally unpredictable and unexpected. The 3 parts were formed by hand individually, hollowed out, then reattached with the feet and fired twice. In this case, a small amount of very old underglaze was found and used with remarkable results which likely won't ever be repeated! The layers of crusty yellow-gold underglaze shows the brown clay body through the surface. Rare, so unique. Truly one of a kind.
Signed with Artist's signature chop underneath.

Helena Starcevic Ceramics produces work that straddles the line between fine and decorative art. Each piece is one of a kind, hand-built entirely by the artist in her New York studio. Taking inspiration from the natural world, Ms. Starcevic's work includes references to the stark beauty of the desert, prehistoric cave paintings, and the human form (within and without). Everything is filtered through Ms. Starcevic’s own singular aesthetic, at once quiet yet strong, meditative, and beautiful. Pieces are made in different clays and finishes, and at different scales. Groupings are available. Helena Starcevic’s ceramic pieces are held in private collections across the US and Europe. She has held numerous residencies including one at the Museum of Art and Design in New York City.
