Geometric Abstract Hand Carved Wooden Sculpture, 1970s
About the Item
This beautiful Mid-Century Modern wooden sculpture, comes from the collection of a Dutch architect. It features a large rectangular wooden body, ending a triangular carved top which creates a striking juxtaposition and beautifully highlights the difference of each shape. The deep incisions create an interesting play of shadow and light. One side of the sculpture is slightly rougher then the other.
The austere yet wonderfully compelling form illustrates the geometrical abstractions of the artists mathematical thinking, and his preoccupation with reinterpreting constructivism. Its minimalist silhouette recalls Bauhaus sculptures and manifests the maxim "less is more." This piece is decorative yet intellectually engaging modernist fine art sculpture great for a grand office or stylish design interior.
Condition: Very good with some expected stable age splits and nicks.
