Marcin Rusak, "Tephra Sculpture 002", Real Flowers, Zinc, In Stock

About the Item

Drawing their name from the geological term indicating petrified fragments spat from volcanoes, the objects from the Tephra series are handcrafted using real, specially treated flowers mounted on sculptural forms made of steel wire and jute. Metallised using a thermo-coating technique that covers the dense textures in a paper-thin layer of molten metal, the structures preserve the eternal blossom in an almost Pompeiian effect of silhouettes covered in volcanic debris. The organic form of the Tephra Sculpture 002 comes from the study of plants’ anatomy, revealing an unexpected complexity of botanic forms that symbolise nature’s creativity. The sewing, bending and welding interlaced with the sublime fragility of flowers are blended, and in fact muted, by the rigidity of the industrial metallisation process. Cocooned by streams of liquified metal and finished by hand to achieve a polished or matte texture, the sculptures, reminiscent of monochrome bas-reliefs, establish a new field of exploration for Marcin Rusak Studio. The objects from the Tephra series are made using natural components sealed with a protective layer of resin and metal. However, occasional irregularities may occur as part of the metallisation process, revealing underlying organic elements. These should be treated as an individual specificity of each object. The piece will be shipped in a museum-quality wooden fumigated crate suitable for airfreight.

  • Marcin Rusak, Merging Metals Drinks Cabinet 83-2, in Aluminium / Bronze / Zinc
    By Marcin Rusak
    Located in WARSZAWA, 14
Marcin Rusak Studio’s merging metals collection focuses on showcasing the painterly qualities of merging metals, with the aim to instil artistic expression into the industrial processes associated with this material. The collection adopts a metal spraying technique traditionally used for large-scale industrial manufacture, and renders the process handmade, resulting in individually unique pieces. By applying metals such as bronze, brass, copper, zinc and aluminium to objects as if they were three-dimensional canvases, a truly original aesthetic landscape is created; one of deep colours and rich textures reminiscent of Minimalist sculpture and colour-field painting. The Merging Metals Drinks Cabinet...

Buddy No_002 Sculpture by AOAO Dimensions: W 23 x D 28 x H 30 cm Materials: Ceramic Bisque Color options available upon request. The idea was born after deciding to reconnect with my family and my grandfather – a sculptor artist. Learning to sculpt and being a designer compelled me to combine these two mediums and use their best values. Experimenting with the functionality of sculpture and the meaning of furniture led me to create the collection. Studio AOAO is an interdisciplinary studio combining art and design. It was created by Alicja Strzyzynska and Onur Iseri in Amsterdam in 2020. “We specialise in making sculptural pieces by experimenting with the functionality of sculpture and the meaning of furniture. In our works, we focus on the emotional connection between the object and the user. All of our work seeks the experience of intimacy and the metaphysical bond between personal interaction and meaningful narrative. Through sculptural value and reflective design, we aim to create pieces that last for generations and help reduce environmental waste.” The inspiration to sculpt came from Alicja’s roots, her grandfather – an artist sculptor. Alicja completed Masters of Arts Degree in Product and Visual Communication Design at Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts and finished her bachelor degree in Interior Architecture. Alicja previously worked in Tokyo and Amsterdam in architectural design studios. Onur completed his business studies in Japan and worked in digital design & marketing as well as teaching in Tokyo. The studio’s first collection debuted at Rossana Orlandi Gallery during Milan Design Week 2021. The studio currently collaborates with RO Gallery...
