Pierced White Ceramic Sculpture
About the Item
Babette is part of the Femme Series, a sculptural exploration celebrating the female form. I am trying to capture the universal balance and grace of the female form. The delicacy of the of the pierced form, combined with the unexpected and seemingly impossible strength of the clay reflects how I see women throughout history. We may appear delicate while having incredible powers of perseverance, toughness, and resilience.
This hand pierced sculpture made from wheel thrown white stoneware with a white satin glaze. Once I form the piece, while it is still wet, I map out and cut small holes. In then let it dry slowly for a few weeks to avoid cracking. When it is finally dry, I painstakingly enlarge and smooth each hole until it reaches the limit of what the clay can support. By the time it is done it almost appears to be transparent.

Lynne Meade Ceramics
Lynne Meade currently works out of her studio in Oakland, California. Her works in clay exemplify stunning form, intricate detail, and subtle beauty. Lynne's modern design style is mesmerizing and her meticulous technique breathes originality. Meade collaborates with designers, architects, and individual clients to create unique pieces of art for both public and private spaces. Meade has been exhibiting her sculpture and design work since 1987. She studied at Penland School Of Crafts and graduated with a BA in Ceramic Design from Wesleyan University in Connecticut in 1986. She has taught classes at MIT, The New Jersey Center for Visual Arts, Walnut Creek Center for Community Arts, ASUC at UC Berkeley, and workshops around the country. In 2009, Meade received the Carol Duke Artist Award for Excellence In Craft at the Bellevue Arts Museum. She has permanent collections at American Museum of Ceramic Art in Pomona, California and at Benedict Universit
