Rare & Hand Painted Near Antique Folk Art Metal Salmon Sign from Fish Monger's

About the Item

Large size and all hand-crafted metal salmon sign. This vintage salmon sign is another one of our recent great finds. The former owner told us how he, about three decades ago, had purchased this unique antique in France. Over the years we have seen and sold all kinds of antiques, but this was only the second time that we had the opportunity to purchase a vintage (or near-antique) fish sign and we were immediately thrilled. Not only because of the extraordinary size, but also because of the rarity, the details and the marvelous colors. This kind of workmanship you simply don't find anymore in this day and age. We have searched the worldwide web and you simply cannot find these sculptural signs anywhere. The aging has made this salmon even more beautiful and realistic, because the crazing of the paint makes it look like you can see its scales. This handcrafted, folk-art-like antique looks like it is made of zinc, but we think it is thick tin. This large salmon will look great in a fish monger's, but it can also be the perfect decoration in the office of a salmon farm, in a fisherman's lodge, in a mancave or in a fishing (gear) shop. It was originally made to hang, either in an open space or up against the wall (as shown in our photos) but with one or two brackets this work of art could also be displayed on a very large desk or shelf. If you are looking for a great catch then maybe you can land this rare size salmon. Mind you, our price for this unique antique even includes perfect packing and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 workdays. Maximum length x height (without the chain) x depth: 44.1 x 16.7 x 4.3 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again). You can shop all our 1000+ listings by pushing the button that reads 'View All From Seller'.

  • Antique, Rare & Decorative Pair of Hand Carved and Hand Painted Horse Sculptures
    Located in Lisse, NL
Stunning and unique pair of matching horse sculptures. With a combined experience of almost 30 years in the antiques trade, we were thrilled to once again find beautifully hand-crafted and decorative antiques that we had never seen before. From the density and the weight we can see and feel that these highly decorative horse sculptures are made of a tropical hardwood. Like, for example, with antique mirror frames or church sculptures these horses too were first covered with a mixture of chalk and glue so that the paint would hold longer. And, as so often is the case with antiques, the colors that were used for painting these horses are so much more beautiful than anything you find in this day and age that they truly are an absolute joy to look at. From the colors, the wear, the materials and the techniques that were used to create these horses we can see that these are 19th century antiques. However and unfortunately we lack the knowledge to be able to tell you from which country these highly decorative and sizeable works of art originate. We just can't find matching style horse sculptures anywhere on the worldwide web. They could be Chinese or Nepalese, but they could also be Persian or Arabian. We just have not been able to find out. What we do know is that they are definitely antique, they are in beautiful condition (with some wear, consistent with their age), they are highly decorative, probably unique and they have a look and feel that will instantly change the atmosphere of the room they are in. Mind you, our sharp price for this wonderful pair of horse sculptures...

  • Antique & Important Dutch Hindeloopen Hand Painted Folk Art Tea Bucket w. Liner
    Located in Lisse, NL
Handcrafted, rare and important 'tea bucket', early 1800s. For a museum quality, ultra rare and pure Dutch Folk Art antique from the early to mid 1800s there is always room in your home or collection. This marvelous and all handcrafted tea-bucket is also hand-painted and the antique decor all around could not be more Dutch (in general) and it could not be more pure Hindeloopen in particular. On the one side are the farmhouse with the adjacent hay barn, the trees and the windmill and on the other side are the typical Dutch, wooden flat bottom boats that many who have been to Holland must have seen and will never forget. Because of the paintings too this Hindeloopen antique is important, because the hand-painted scenes not only epitomize the 'soul and cultural history of Holland', the fertile land and the adjacent seas have also made it possible for us to transport our goods and do business all over the world from very early on. When this so called tea-bucket was hand-crafted some 200 years ago, Hindeloopen was a village on the coast...
