Tricolarial 37, a Unique Amber, Red, Purple & Blue Glass Vase by Vic Bamforth

About the Item

'Tricolarial 37' is a unique hand blown sculptural vase by the British artist Vic Bamforth. Blown in amber, red, purple and blue colored glass which are encased in clear glass to create this stunning piece. With soft, twisting lines, the form has dynamic movement, which causes the colors to merge and move when viewed from differing angles. Bamforth is an artist who has helped to bring the highly demanding graal technique into the 21st century. He combines hand-painting and glass blowing skills to create one-off internationally collected sculptural works of art. In essence what drives his work are the dynamics of colour, movement, and the unique properties and qualities of glass itself. Inspiration is drawn from life’s experiences. How he feels, what he is thinking, people he has met, places he has visited and the world around him. The blown form has provided him with the ideal three-dimensional canvas with which he is able to express his own personal experience of - and to also reflect upon - life. He creates instantly recognisable, vibrantly painted, humorous one-off glass art pieces using specialist high firing enamels. With his collection ‘Sommercalmo’ Bamforth has thrown off the laborious yet rewarding hand painting and concentrated on the techniques of ‘sommerso’ and ‘incalmo’, both of which are used within the collection's name. This has allowed a more intuitive, freer way of working. In turn, these experiments in colour have inspired his latest works "Tricolarial", as ever there is a hint in the name, for these are created employing 3 colours which result in a much larger array of hues within in each unique piece. Departing from the multiple hues found in his other collections, his 'Sommarial' artworks are a daring exploration of single colour combined with the artist's trademark organic forms. Bamforth has exhibited internationally, most noteworthy being the annual ‘Sculptural Objects and Functional Art’ (SOFA) fair in both Chicago and New York. Three of his pieces were short listed for the prestigious 3rd British Glass Biennale Award 2008 and subsequently included in the exhibition at the Ruskin Glass Centre, Stourbridge, UK. He has work held in private collections in the UK, Europe, North America, Asia & Australia and has work in the collections of Broadfield House Glass Museum in Stourbridge and The Bournemouth & Poole College, Dorset, UK. Bamforth is currently based at the Ruskin Glass Centre, which is located in Stourbridge, the heart of glass making in the UK.

    By Liam Reeves

Warp & Fade 017 is a unique handblown glass vessel with fine white cane detail created by the British artist Liam Reeves. Incorporating layers of glass, the top colours in blue and red merge to create a larger spectrum, as the hues blur from one to the other. The entire piece is finally sandblasted creating a soft satin, diffused finish. Liam Reeves has been making glass professionally since 1998 when he graduated from Middlesex University with a BA (Hons) in three-dimensional design. During this time he has honed his skills whilst working in the glass industry for some of the best glassmakers in the UK. In 2009 Reeves studied for an MA at the RCA in order to explore the creative possibilities of the medium of glassblowing. He is currently hot-glass technician at the very same and prestigious Royal College of Art in London. While at the RCA Liam discovered a passion for investigating pivotal techniques from glassblowing’s two-millennia of rich history. From the mould blowing of ancient Rome to the complex goblet-making techniques of Renaissance Venice...

  • Panorama in Nectar, an Amber & Metallic Blue Abstract Glass Vase by Bethany Wood

'Panorama in Nectar' is a unique artwork by the British artist, Bethany Wood. An equal passion for painting physically inspires how she controls and manipulates her glass. Recreating the fleeting nature of brush strokes, Wood’s molten colours traverse across the surface of her glass canvases blending in a myriad of hues. Unlike their flat painterly counterparts, these combine and merge, forming spontaneous watery and lava like abstract relief flourishes. Taking inspiration from a wide range of sources, Wood’s influences are taken directly from the world around us, elements of the inner-city sit alongside expansive landscapes. Reoccurring themes are Graffiti & Urban Culture, exploration & travel. In the artist's own words; "As a multidisciplinary artist, I have begun to merge my two artistic passions, painting and Glassmaking. I like to express myself with the fluidity of the material. The Directional arrangement of a colour palette can form the depth of an abstract Landscape. I use my own paintings as a reference whilst making in the hot shop. Each individual artwork from my series has been inspired by a specific place. Serendipity of abstraction has always been an inspiration for me; the coincidental elements which catch the eye of the viewer. The palette, composition and depth I have attained are taken from nature, with a bold but elegant swipe of my own personal, Expressionist style" Rising glass star, Wood graduated from De Montfort...
