19th Century French Hand Painted Barbotine Rooster Vase Signed Dephin Massier

About

Bring the country French style into your home with this small, colorful, antique rooster figure. Crafted in France circa 1880, the chicken sculpture is a Classic French country home accessory. The porcelain animal is hand painted and signed on the bottom "D. M. Vallauris" (1836-1916). The small, antique Majolica chicken has an expressive face and stands next to a vase that could easily be used for flowers. This hand painted, ceramic rooster vase is in excellent condition, and has a sharp, vibrant color palette of yellow, red, green and blue. Pictured in the book "Les Barbotines" by Massin page 86. See last picture. The Massier family was a dynasty of ceramicists dating back to before the French Revolution. They played a key role in the revival of pottery in Vallauris. Massier - one of the three companies, led by the brothers Delphin (born in 1836), Clement (born in 1844) and cousin Jerome (born in 1850), soon formed the core of the producers of Vallauris. Measures: 4” W x 5” D x 6.75” H.
