19th century Victorian English Cast-Iron Lion Doorstop with Old Red Patina
$2,400

About
A cast iron lion doorstop from Victorian England. This 19th century Victorian cast-iron flat-back reclining lion is an elegant doorstop, probably after the magnificent original bronze pair by Sir Edwin Landseer displayed in Trafalgar Square. The lion presents very realistic carved details such as the muscles, paws and mane, and its reddish patina is very appealing. Doorstops evolved from a stray brick to a genuine art form during the Victorian era, and lion-shaped models were quite popular. This English 19th century iron-cast lion door stop with its fierce look, circa 1880, will prevent your doors from slamming and can also be used a decorative sculpture on a shelf or even as a paperweight for an extra note of charm and style.
