About

A fragment of an Attic red figure vase, dating to the 4th century BC. From the shoulder of a large vase, preserving the profile of a horse, painted in black with quick, confident strokes. The outline of another horse's head to its side, shown facing with head slightly left, traces of white paint. Measures: Height 3 3/4 inches on stand. Width 3 3/4 inches. Provenance: From the collection of Dr. R.H. Ryman (1922-2007), Switzerland. Acquired from Münzen und Medaillen AG, Basel, Sonderliste C, 1957.
