About

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Spectacular and large green ceramic lion glazed in Art Deco style, the proud animal was depicted in his Classic attitude when he tends to silently approach the prey before attacking it, the powerful muscles, well outlined, highlight all the tension of the body, a representation full of strength and suspense, a classic example of Art Deco that exalted in its artistic expressions the forms, strength, and power of both man and animals. The object presents very particular workmanship: the piece of raw ceramic was first modeled in its final soft and elegant form, then fired at about 1000° C, then an ancient technique was used applying the "cristallina" (a transparent glassy coating) with an ox brush; then distributed, always with a brush, the green enamel over the whole body of the lion; The enameling phase requires a lot of skill because it is important that the enamel is deposited evenly on the surface of the object, at this point, very quickly, to fix the enamel, the piece was put in the oven between 920 and 940 degrees for the last firing. By observing the lower part of the paws we can better understand this technique. The lion was made between 1930 and 1933 in the Luneville area (France) in the style of the Saint-Clement pottery manufactory. Saint-Clement was founded in 1758 by Jacques Chambrette of Luneville; the history of pottery in the Lunévillois region thus dates back to the 18th century and the objects produced in Saint-Clément and its surroundings are the fruit of this long tradition. The image of the Lion is one of the most exploited and ancient symbols in the history of mankind, it is undoubtedly a protagonist in the history of art, multifaceted and omnipresent, so much so that it enters the collective unconscious. The lion is, first of all, a solar animal, it expresses brightness and light, characteristics of celestial energies. It is also synonymous with royalty, being par excellence the king of animals, a symbol of strength, courage, and wisdom. As a solar animal, it also represents wild instincts as well as the vital force of nature. In the positive valence, the lion is synonymous with royalty and wisdom. Measures Length 50 cm, width 20 cm, height 18 cm. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
