Cold Painted Vienna Bronze Group, Man & His English Bulldog Dining

About the Item

Once in a while we get a bronze that is jaw dropping. Here it is. Now bronzes can be artistic in content, or a beautifully detailed study of a human or animal. They can be from a movement, such as Art Nouveau, Art Deco, impressionist, etc. Then there are the humorous ones, such as clowns with animals, as one we just sold. We recently sold a monkey playing several instruments as another example of humor. This one we are offering is beyond humorous. It's a remarkably detailed and meticulously painted. Besides this, it is a double inkwell. That would be the least important characteristic. That man and his dog are as close as can be, and looking at each other with great expression. They are also draped in a cloth napkin as if they are ready to share a meal. The detail is remarkable. The man has 5'o'clock shadow if you study his face. Their teeth are especially detailed. I have never seen anything like this and I have sold literally hundreds of bronzes. It is signed by H. Stemhauser. I am not familiar with the artist. It also is engraved "In remembrance", which is written in German. I am not sure if this was made in Germany or Austria. It looks like a Vienna bronze by a great artist such as Franz Bergmann. I can't see that that really matters. It has a great feel to it as it is heavy, and feels good to hold. I know it's early 20th century, and either made in Germany or Austria. What I do know is this is the height of whimsy and quality, and it is going to hurt to sell it because I smile every time I look at it. I don't usually write such a long description, but this bronze is not very usual. If you like whimsy, or English bulldogs, or just appreciate great art, you have a shot at a very special piece. One of the ceramic inkwell inserts has been repaired. I am amazed when they are still there. I am offering free shipping in the continental U.S. I would like to pack this one myself.
