Extra rare // Royal Copenhagen French Bulldogs porcelain figurine // Knud Kyhn

About the Item

Extra rare French bulldogs designed by Knud Kyhn in 1908 and made by porcelain Royal Copenhagen, Denmark with number 1452 / 957. Knud Kyhn (1880-1969) was one of Denmark’s leading ceramic artists in the 20th century. After his art studies, he worked for Royal Copenhagen, Kähler and Bing & Gröndahl. Knud became a prominent designer of animal figurines with earthy Sung glazes. His artistry is represented at several museums in the Nordic countries. Cute French bulldog puppies sitting together. Very rare collector's piece of antique porcelain figures or the French bulldog lover. Marked on bottom, see the pictures. Dimensions Height: 15 cm (5.91 in.) Width: 23 cm (9.06 in.) Depth: 20 cm (7.88 in.) Very good condition. There are two factory glaze "pontil marks" under the chins of the dogs (see last photo). No chips.

    Rare white Rosenthal Studio line 'Structura' vase by Martin Freyer 'Structura Paper' Series that Rosenthal made in the 1960s. Hans Martin Freyer (1909-1975) was a German painter and designer. He was born in Hanover, Germany and studied at the at the Technische Universität Darmstadt (Darmstadt University of Technology). In 1933, he spent time in the Balkans, Italy, France and Switzerland. After returning to Germany, he studied at the Universität der Künste Berlin (University of Art Berlin) and the Reimann School in Berlin. From 1937 to 1938, Freyer worked as a landscape architect, interior designer and set designer in the US. Upon his return to Germany he designed the Volkswagen logo. During the Second World War, Freyer worked as an art designer for stage productions of opera houses, cabaret stages and variety shows. Throughout his career Freyer also worked as a portrait artist, as well as a graphic and industrial designer for surface decorations and structures. He created designs for wallpapers, textiles, decorative materials and light metal.
