Gold and Silver Viking Figure of Boar, 9th-10th Century

About

Origin: Viking inhabited area of Europe. A figure of mythic "golden boar" from carriage of god Freyr. A unique masterpiece of Viking jewellery. A silver figure of boar with pronounced snout. Head highly decorated with embossed flowers. Legs and ears decorated with geometric motifs. Snout divided in 3 fractions. Two of them are covered with golden foil. Eyes also inlayed with golden foil, semiprecious stones in place of pupils. Dimensions: Height 39 mm, width 27 mm, length 49 mm. Weight 76 gr. Condition report: Good overall condition. Silver covered with patina, which is denser in indentations. Some pitting, scratches and dents. Golden foil with significant scratches and indentations. Provenance: Private Viennese collection, acquired in 1990s from art dealer.
