Hand Carved Large Wooden Sun God Helios on Charriot & 4 Horses Wall Sculpture

About the Item

This large wall sculpture is another one of our recent rare finds. This early to mid 20th century made wall sculpture depicts the (Greek) sun god Helios riding his charriot through the clouds. The quality of the carvings reveils the work of a master-carver as does the perfect balance with which this entire scene was designed and executed. For us, the four wild horses in full stride and in deep relief are what takes this near-antique to the next level. The deep relief creates an extra impressive 3D effect and we feel that the artist has wonderfully captured the strength and liveliness of these majestic beings. It takes a god-given talent to be able to hand carve a group of horses whilst also capturing their natural spirit (or 'soul' as we like to call it). The uniqueness, the subject matter, the x-large size (exactly 5 feet wide), the superb patina AND its excellent condition are the other important reasons why we immediately knew we had to have it. Wear consistent with age and use. This unique sculpture is in superb condition. Also, because of the way it was created. Several wooden 'planks' were glued together with opposing wood grains. That is why this sculpture has not bent or torked. Please also read our item description.
