About the Item

Born to a painter and draftsman father at the Ministry of War, Louis Albert Carvin was admitted to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris where he was a student of Emmanuel Frémiet and Georges Gardet. A member of the Society of French Artists, he exhibited at the Salon of this society from the end of the 19th century until 1933. He received an honorable mention in 1894. Carvin created The Muse of Aviation, a bronze trophy presented on May 1, 1909, by Léon Bollée, president of the Aéroclub de la Sarthe, to the brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright. He executed their bust for the Michelin Cup in Pau in 1908. His work Le Spleen (1934), representing a barzoi, was erected in the park of the Maison-Blanche in Clamart. Specialized in animal sculpture, he takes as models deer, hinds, lions, lionesses, panthers, birds, wolfhounds, sometimes horses, as the group L'Accolade featuring a couple of thoroughbreds, published by the foundry J.B. in Paris.
