Majestic antique pendant with a stunning, 20 inch alabaster shade and two sets of glass shades.
Thanks to its unique design, its impressive size and its truly excellent condition this six-light alabaster chandelier will light up both your days and evenings, both in summer and winter time. This antique light fixture could not be more original and it even comes with a set of three near-transparent glass roses shades AND a set of three amberish color glass roses shades (matching the alabaster). So you can always choose the type of glass rose shades that you think are best for the occasion, season etc. The superb condition, colorful, extra large and deep alabaster shade combined with the equally excellent glass roses are a match made in heaven. However, what takes this chandelier to the next level are the three large and gilt bronze ram sculptures at each of the three suspension points. May these meaningful symbols for determination, power and leadership inspire their new owner(s) to reach for the stars and beyond. The black veins combined with other color veins and patches in this natural mineral stone shade contrast even more beautiful when the light is switched on, because the already marvelous colorful alabaster then turns into an even warmer spectacle of colors. We could shoot a hundred photos, but you still would not be able to see the true beauty of this impressive chandelier. The unique patterns inside this hand carved shade are the work of mother nature herself and the light brings them out in their true glory. In real life our antiques always have that little bit extra and this stunning pendant is all but an exception to that rule. You can, again, take our word for it. The original and heavy gilt bronze chain and the stunning and large, gilt bronze canopy are like the icing on the cake of this incredibly rich chandelier. If you have also noticed the double rose pattern on each of the gilt bronze shackles then you must agree that whomever had this chandelier made clearly spared no expenses. And to give you an even better idea of the quality, the gilt bronze canopy alone weighs over 11 pounds lbs.
To find this majestic chandelier in such excellent condition made our day, week and month and we are proud to be able to offer it to our 1stdibs clientele first. For our photos of this six-light chandelier we used three 75 watt bulbs inside the shade and one 60 watt bulb in each of the rose shades. Some chances you only get once in your lifetime and that is exactly what we thought when we first saw this marvelous Arts and Crafts era pendant. The six hand carved arms are like stems of flowers growing out of the base of this chandelier and the perfect (both design and condition-wise) alabaster shades are like stylized blooming flowers. Just like the six mint arms, the monumental and mint circular 'base' too is all hand-crafted and hand carved out of soilid oak and with a stunning row of large oak beads between the top and bottom section. Together with the equally unique and also handcrafted, original 'rope-chains' they are just some of the elements that make this antique extraordinary and truly a joy to own and to look at. However, to us, it is the remarkable and mint condition, hand carved owl sculpture in the middle of this chandelier that takes it to the next level. This beautiful and meaningful bird is the international symbol for wisdom and learning and in this case it is sitting perfectly upright with its 'river pearl eyes' always alert and present. A stunning, four-light eagle pendant for the collectors of only the rarest Black Forest antiques.
If you are a serious and lifelong collector of Black Forest antiques or even if you are the curator of a museum owning rare Black Forest pieces then the chance of you owning a large Black Forest chandelier like this still is very small. This, over three feet wide, eagle chandelier is the kind of Black Forest antique that you normally only find in books. For us to have been given the opportunity to purchase it from a German family of (former) nobles was an honor. The older lady we purchased it from had known it all her life, but she was moving to a much smaller home and she had no family members interested in antiques.
This majestic eagle with both claws is holding a perfectly hand carved branch and from each of the four side branches grows a hand crafted, blackened metal, flower lampshade. The large size of this eagle, his perfect body posture, his excellent and warm patina and the great details really make this well balanced sculpture a marvelous antique to own, to use and to look at. The way in which this fierce predator is sticking out its neck and scanning the area with its piercing eyes is something that only a true master carver is capable of creating. To us, this unique and sculptural Black Forest chandelier is the perfect center piece for a hunting lodge or for a Black Forest collector's 'treasure trove' or 'inner sanctum'.
