Brass Animal Sculptures

Unique and highly decorative, work of art coat rack. When we find an antique that is this good in terms of its design AND in terms of the quality of the workmanship then the first thing we do is to look for a signature. And we were really (and pleasantly) surprised to find the signature of MJ Slager in the far right, bottom corner. Only once before have we seen and owned and sold another stunning antique by this highly skilled artist. And when you realize that there have never been any other pieces of this artist available on the internet anywhere (apart from the stunning folding screen that we sold via 1stdibs and that you can see in image 19 of this listing) then you will understand how special it was for us that this coat rack by MJ Slager too landed on our path. Thinking of the odds of this happening, we can only describe it as a blessing. Like we described in that previous listing: when you look at the beauty, the detail and the overal workmanship it is unbelievable that such a skilled artist did not go on and have a bigger career. One of a kind coatrack with inlaid geometrical patterns and unique animal 'sculptures'. With the Arts & Crafts era being one of our favourites, we are always thrilled to find antiques from that era. Especially ones that we have never seen before and that we never expect to see again. We could not be more thrilled to find this unique and pure Dutch Arts and Crafts coat rack and the fact that it is in such amazing condition made us even happier. Finding top quality antiques in this incredibly condition is getting ever harder. This large size but undeep coat rack has an amazing patina, it comes with a set of four perfect brass hooks and several smaller ones as well. They all have the perfect patina and the circular mirror too is the original one and certainly in good enough condtion for you to check your good looks before leaving. However, what makes this remarkable Arts and Crafts work of beauty stand out from anything we ever saw is the combination of geometrical inlays and the unique animal 'sculptures'. Unique, antique, stunning and all handcrafted 6 light chandelier. Some chances you only get once in your lifetime and that is exactly what we thought when we first saw this marvelous Arts and Crafts era pendant. The six hand carved arms are like stems of flowers growing out of the base of this chandelier and the perfect (both design and condition-wise) alabaster shades are like stylized blooming flowers. Just like the six mint arms, the monumental and mint circular 'base' too is all hand-crafted and hand carved out of soilid oak and with a stunning row of large oak beads between the top and bottom section. Together with the equally unique and also handcrafted, original 'rope-chains' they are just some of the elements that make this antique extraordinary and truly a joy to own and to look at.
