Three Colored Fish in Lucite by Abraham Palatnik, Brazil

About the Item

Colored fish family in Lucite by Abraham Palatnik. Two of them in sparkling turquoise (one big one small), the other small one comes in Royal Orange. All three have there original sticker with " made in Brazil". Big fish Measures: high: 8cm long: 13 cm deep: 2 cm Small fishes high: 5.5 cm long: 8.5 cm deep: 1.5 cm The Brazilian artist Abraham Palatnik (1928) was the founder of the technological movement in Brazilian art and a Pioneer in making Kinetic sculptures. In the late 40th (1949) he created his first “Kinechromatic Devices”. Many an optical experiment followed in the 1950s and 1960s. The figurines are part of the Artimis Collection that features hundreds of different figurines. They are mostly animals, but also human and abstract figures can be found in it.

"Born in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, in 1928 to a family of Russian Jews, Palatnik moved with his family to Tel Aviv (then Palestine) when he was four years old. He attended Montefiori Technical School, where he specialized in internal combustion engines, and studied art under the tutelage of the painter Haaron Avni and the sculptor Sternshus at the Municipal Institute of Art. When he returned to Brazil in 1948, his output consisted mainly of figurative and landscape paintings and charcoal drawings.
