Trophees Defence from Exhibition Tier at Moa by Sinke & Van Tongeren

About the Item

Title: Trophees Defence An impressive set of 12 sculptures creating a wall of weaponry. Real antique horns and antlers facing the viewer and forcing it into defence. From left to right and top to bottom: Hartebeest (Alcelaphus buselaphus) Billy goat (Capra aegagrus hircus), Caribou (Rangifer tarandus caribou), Alpine Ibex (Capra ibex), Bezoar Goat (Capra aegagrus), Goat (Capra aegagrus hircus), Common Eland (Taurotragus oryx), Moose (Alces alces), Oryx (Oryx gazella), Greater Kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros), Mouflon (Ovis orientalis orientalis), Springbok (Antidorcas marsupialis) In the museum exhibition these sculptures were hanging on an iron frame but they are created to also be able to hang on a wall. This set will be a centrepiece wherever it will be hanging.   About DSvT collection: CNN: 'The men who turned taxidermy into strangely beguiling art.' Financial times: 'The stuffed that dreams are made of.' The telegraph: 'Sinke and van Tongeren elevates taxidermy to fine art.' Note: For all our fine Taxidermy works we have a clear statement about our animals being sourced from zoo's and breeders. About them having lived and died in captivity and them not being killed for any reason. For this specific work we cannot make that claim. For this great object we worked with antique finds. So we cannot make any statements about heritage of the horns and antlers.

  • Fine Taxidermy Hamerkop by Sinke & Van Tongeren
    By Sinke & Van Tongeren
    Located in Haarlem, NL
Hammerhead (Scopus umbretta) is a medium sized wading bird. The shape of his head with a long bill and crest at the back looks like a hammer. This gave the species its name after the Afrikaans word for hammerhead ‘Hamerkop’. We sculpted this Hamerkop in a very gracious and friendly pose. Its base is tailor made with antique wood and velvet. Housend under an antique 19th century glass dome...

  • Fine Taxidermy Kea by Sinke & Van Tongeren
    By Sinke & Van Tongeren
    Located in Haarlem, NL
The Kea (Nestor notabilis) is a species of large parrot found in the forested and alpine regions of the South Island of New Zealand. Known for attacking livestock, especially sheep. There are also anecdotal reports of kea attacking rabbits, dogs, and even horses. There are also suggestions that kea used to feed on moa in a similar way. It all sounds brutal yet if looks beautiful. With its mostly olive-green plumage with orange feathers on the undersides of its wings. The outer wing are a dull-blu. It sits on top of a green marble ornament and under a large antique glass dome...

  • Fine Taxidermy Duyvenbode's Lory by Sinke & Van Tongeren
    By Sinke & Van Tongeren
    Located in Haarlem, NL
The Duyvenbode’s Lory (Chalcopsitta duivenbodei) is found in northern New Guinea. Named after Maarten Dirk van Renesse van Duivenbode (June 2, 1804 – March 31, 1878) who was a Dutch merchant, trader of bird skins for fashion and naturalia. The colour palette of this bird is very special. Almost bronze like. A great match with the antique velvet base. Note: All animals used for their work came from captivity and died on natural causes. No animals are raised or killed for their work. The works of Dutch Artists Sinke and van Tongeren are inspired by golden age old master painters...
